Camilla starts the Windsor Year

It took her less than ten hours. The Duchess of Cornwall got 2021 off to a flying start for the House of Windsor by launching a brand new project before most people had even had breakfast on New Year's Day. Camilla is now the proud owner of an online reading room.

Her newest project is another strand of her passion for literature. Camilla has been a great cheerleader for reading, books and the power of the written word. In 2020, she shared several lists of recommendations as the pandemic took hold and people found themselves with more time on their hands to read. Inspired by its success, she has now set up a reading room on Instagram where she will continue to offer ideas about what to read with a few little extras thrown in.

This is a royal reading room, after all. The Duchess of Cornwall's online salon will include chats with authors, too, to hear about their inspiration and methods of working and to open up their books to readers just a little bit more. First into the room is Charlie Mackesy whose book 'The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse' has become one of the biggest hits of recent times. He chatted with Camilla about his inspiration and why his book is so special to him.

The Reading Room is rather elegant itself. The Instagram (see it here) already had six posts on it before it went live, always a good move and one that other royal accounts might benefit from in the future. The launch photo is very nice indeed while the logo is all kinds of beautiful and already ready for a spring and summer makeover.

Camilla has obviously put a huge amount of thought into this and it bears the hallmarks of years of passion. It also has a concrete objective, sharing reading and learning through it, which can only help. Hats off to the Duchess of Cornwall for starting 2021 as she means to go on.
